Bucks for Jeans Drive–Breast Cancer Awareness Month

By October 23, 2023January 15th, 2025No Comments

As part of Breast Cancer Awareness month, Rue Insurance conducted a “Bucks for Jeans” drive within the office.  For a donation, employees could opt to wear jeans for a day.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.  The event started as a week long event by the American Cancer Society in 1985.  It expanded to a month long event in future years.  By 1992, the drive included the pink ribbon.

The idea of the event is to increase awareness of the need for early detection.  Many people don’t realize the current statistics associated with breast cancer:

  • Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women
  • Breast cancer represents 30% of all new cancers for women each year
  • Just under 300,000 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed each year
  • While treatable, breast cancer still takes 43,000 lives each year
  • Over a lifetime, 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer

Thank you to the Rue Insurance Employee Club with raising awareness within the office for this event.  Rue Insurance has been doing this drive for over 10 years to honor those who have battled cancer or loved ones that have lost the battle to cancer.  We want to increase awareness for our employees and motivate people on the importance of a checkup.
